The Walker Iron Collection
Preview: July 19, 2004 (Monday)
Jimmy and Carol Walker, internationally known collectors of antique pressing irons, have decided to sell their ENTIRE collection at public auction due to health reasons. This collection, truly multi-faceted, is awesome in both quality and scope. They have gathered an incredible array of irons and related items. Many collectors will know them as the editors of "IRON TALK, Journal of Antique Pressing Irons" and "Year 2000 Pressing Iron Price Guide". This auction will be an unparalleled collectors' bonanza, as it is without a doubt a Premiere Collection of the highest caliber. Many of these irons are super, super rare examples and a great number of them belong in the extremely scarce category. Some including the Patent Models are one of a kind. It will be sold "absolutely" with no reserves, no minimum bids and no buyer's premium. This will be a very exciting auction. More details will be forthcoming soon on the website.

Radisson Hotel
Lansing, Michigan
Presented by Carole & Larry Meeker
Auctioneer: Bill Baxter
Click here for full details | Email

Coming Thursday July 31st, 2003--- an exciting pressing iron and antique laundry-related auction is going to take place in Lansing, Michigan. The late Edna Glissman, known as the “Mother of the Sadiron”, and her husband A. H. “Whitey” Glissman, amassed one of the most comprehensive and amazing collections of antique pressing irons and laundry-related pieces ever seen. Make plans now to attend this iron / laundry collectors’ event of a lifetime!

Preview and hospitality gathering will begin the afternoon of July 30th with the auction of over 600 quality pieces starting 9 am sharp (Michigan time) on the 31st. This collection features irons and laundry related antiques from around the world dating from as early as the 1600’s. The auction includes important irons such as goffering irons, carved wooden mangle boards, engraved and dated brass box irons, unique fluters, unusual child-size irons, odd fuel irons, and more. Also included from this collection are American laundry-related patent models, salesman sample washers, Whirlpool’s first wooden washer, cast iron laundry stoves, trade signs and related, all from one of the most famous and prolific collectors of antique irons and laundry-related antiques ever. There will be something for everyone!

The Glissmans were pioneer pressing iron and laundry collectors as well as researchers and authors of the classic 1971 reference book The Evolution of the Sadiron. This collection is undoubtedly one of the most important of antique pressing irons ever to be assembled. The auction will take place in conjunction with the annual Midwest Sad Iron Collector Club Meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Lansing, Michigan this year. All are welcome to participate in the auction whether you are a club member of not.

This auction is something you won’t want to miss so be sure get out your calendars and mark the date. Remember, the auction is Thursday July 31st, the day before the beginning of the annual MSICC meeting. All auction attendees are invited to become members of the Midwest Sad Iron Collector Club if they are not already, and join in on the club’s assorted activities scheduled over the entire weekend.

Illustrated action catalogs will be available prior to the event and absentee bidding will be encouraged for those not able to attend in person. Quality consignments will also be considered.

Please be sure to mention the auction for the special room rate of $79.00 that the Radisson is offering for this spectacular event. Contact the Radisson Lansing at (800) 333-3333 or (517) 482-0188.

For consignment, catalog and auction information contact Carole and Larry Meeker at 530-620-7019 or clm@patented-antiques.com.
